Troy Scheid (Baker 2002) is entering her 5th season as director of education at Houston’s Main Street Theater, producing the Kids On Stage season for young actors and creating educational events for adult audiences. The Kids On Stage summer camp, with over 800 students and 4 locations, is Houston’s most popular performing arts summer camp and has twice been recognized by Nickelodeon’s Parents’ Pick Awards. As an undergraduate, she was involved with Baker College Theatre (directing Camelot, Sweeney Todd and Pippin for Baker Musical and Twelfth Night for Baker Shakespeare). After graduation, she returned to Rice Players to direct Terra Nova and Design for Living. As an actor, director, costumer and scenic designer, she has been involved with productions at Main Street Theater (both MainStage and Theater for Youth), Stages Repertory Theatre, the JCC, the Back Porch Players, and Theatre Southwest. With the theatre group she founded, Collide, she produced three seasons of site-specific work in nontraditional spaces around Houston, including Danton’s Death, Life Is a Dream, The Dispute, and Dido & Aeneas. Theatre Collide also produced the world premiere of Byzantium: A New Musical, with lyrics by Troy and music by Steven Jamail, at the 2005 New York International Fringe Festival. Last season Troy directed the world premiere of …and L.A. Is Burning by Y York for Main Street Theater, which was named by the Houston Chronicle as one of the 10 best productions of 2008. She is currently preparing to direct Romeo and Juliet for MST’s Theater for Youth and Machinal for Main Street’s MainStage.
